Been noticing a lot of Rosie the Riveter pictures on social media today? Broadway’s behind it.
Today is National Women’s Equality Day, and the Broadway production of the musical Fun Home has urged the theater community to post photos of themselves in the iconic pose with the hashtag #ERAnow.
Fun Home is based on the graphic memoir by cartoonist Alison Bechdel, who invented the Bechdel test in a 1985 comic strip. The Tony-winning show has made history on Broadway for being the first major musical to have a lesbian protagonist, and today’s social media initiative continues its legacy of promoting gender equality.
A number of Broadway players have gotten in on the #ERAnow action on social media. Check out their Rosie poses below:
Today I lend support to the Equal Rights Amendment to eliminate discrimination against women and girls finally by the letter of the law. Rosie the riveter is an icon of this movement and I proudly join women all over today to ask for support. Support the Equal Rights Amendment.
