Chiwetel Ejiofor can’t say much about his upcoming foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Doctor Strange, but he’s pretty enthused about it all the same.
“I am doing Doctor Strange, and I’m incredibly excited about it,” he said to EW during a recent interview to promote Z for Zachariah, an indie apocalypse drama out in limited release this week. The Oscar nominee then added with a laugh: “That’s all I say.”
Ejiofor can’t elaborate further, but Marvel did provide some insight on his role during Disney’s D23 fan expo: the 38-year-old will play Baron Mordo in the new movie from director Scott Derrickson, which arrives in theaters in 2016. But while the plot secrets remain a mystery at the moment, Ejiofor did say he’s looking forward to working with Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton.
“He’s a good friend of mine,” Ejiofor said of Cumberbatch, who costarred with Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave. “So, it’s gonna be fun. And Tilda Swinton — I haven’t worked with her, but I’m excited to work with her. She’s brilliant.” (Swinton is set to play the Ancient One in Strange.)
Doctor Strange is out on Nov. 4, 2016; Z for Zachariah, starring Ejiofor, Margot Robbie, and Chris Pine, comes out in theaters and on demand Aug. 28. Check back to EW.com for more from Ejiofor and Z for Zachariah director Craig Zobel later this week.
