Shondaland is taking another crack at comedy by selling Splitsville to ABC, EW has learned.
Hailing from Trophy Wife creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, Splitsville tells the story of the single residents of a suburban cul-de-sac who join forces to raise their kids and weather the storm in the wake of a wave of divorces.
Halpern, a Private Practice alum, and Haskins will write and executive produce with Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, with ABC Studios attached.
This isn’t the first time Shondaland — which has brought such hit dramas as Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder to the air — has attempted comedy, having developed projects the last four years. “We can definitely make it work,” Beers recently told EW. “I started my career in comedy and Shonda also wrote comedies and started when she was a screenwriter. We’re really, really looking forward to the prospect of having one on a network sometime soon.”
