This fall, Broadway will welcome back an old show (and old friends) with James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson in the revival of The Gin Game. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play by D.L. Coburn will begin previews Sept. 23 with an official opening Oct. 14. Directed by Leonard Foglia, The Gin Game — last revived in 1997 — returns to the Golden Theater, which housed the original production starring Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn in 1977.
The Gin Game tells the story of two nursing home residents (Weller Martin and Fonsia Dorsey) who form a friendship based on playing games of gin, and share stories about their lives and pasts. The show reunites the stage legends, who last shared the stage in 1966’s A Hand is on the Gate. And while it may have been more than a few years since the two have worked on Broadway together, it’s clear that the pair still have a lot to laugh about. Take an exclusive look at some behind-the-scenes fun from a recent photoshoot, in which Jones and Tyson prove you’re never too old to enjoy working with a good friend.
