Long before Taylor Hawkins was drumming for the Foo Fighters, he was playing Van Halen’s “Panama” as a ninth grader in 1987 — and killing it.

In a recently unearthed video, a teenage Hawkins furiously drums away as the long-haired frontman struts across the stage (a rep for the band confirmed that the bowtie-wearing drummer in the video is indeed Hawkins).

Exactly ten years after this performance, Hawkins — who’s also released two albums with Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders — would go on to join the Foo Fighters. See the video below.
