Oh, man, what a day: The CW is developing a new series based on Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook. The novel was previously adapted for the screen in 2004, a feature film that gave us Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. The couple fell in love IRL, and even won Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards that next year. It was a glorious time, so much so that Gosling and McAdams were even immortalized in the Lonely Island song “Lazy Sunday.” The stars aren’t expected to have any involvement in the new series, but so what? Let’s use their original pairing to help guide us through the stages of reacting to this television reboot.

We thought it was.

Okay, you don’t have to be smug about it.
