Drake's 'If You're Reading This...' becomes first album to go platinum in 2015

Posted on

We have our first platinum album of 2015. Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which is technically a mixtape, became the first album released in 2015 to sell a million copies in the U.S., Billboard reports. According to Nielsen Music, it has now sold 1.007 million copies.

If You’re Reading This… debuted in February through Young Money/Cash Money/Republic Records, and was released as a surprise. Featuring Lil Wayne, Travi$ Scott, and PARTYNEXTDOOR, it became a smash hit, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Drake had previously announced that he would release his studio album, Views From The 6 this year too, but there’s been no word on a release date.

Taylor Swift’s 1989 is the only other album to sell over a million this year — it’s sold 1.463 million in 2015 — but it was released in 2014.

Drake previously went platinum with 2013’s Nothing Was The Same, 2011’s Take Care, and 2010’s Thank Me Later. He’s stoked.

Platinum off the tape. Views up next. Thank you once again. 💵💷💶💴6⃣
