Guardians of the Galaxy animated series shows Star-Lord's origins

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy briefly introduced us to young Peter Quill before fast-forwarding to his life as an intergalactic misfit. If you want to find out what happened to the future Star-Lord after he was picked up by Yondu’s alien spaceship, check out the latest shorts from the animated TV series coming to Disney XD.

Marvel released “Part 1” and “Part 2” of “Star-Lord Origins” from the Guardians of the Galaxy series. We see a young Quill beamed aboard the Ravagers’ spacecraft after bolting from the hospital where his mother lay dying. Before he even meets Yondu, he’s thrown into a holding cell where he encounters a multi-eyed, “gross, disgusting booger-beast” and tries to escape — and he does, to his dismay.

We also learn from his conversation with Yondu that Quill received his signature blaster — which apparently also fires streams of flame, water, and brown muck — from his mom. “You’re far too valuable,” remarks the blue-skinned alien.

“Star-Lord Origins” comprises two of the 10 announced shorts that will air throughout the month of August prior to the series’ debut on Sept. 26 at 9:30 p.m. ET. These clips will delve deeper into the backstories of Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket. In addition, fans will be able to get a sneak peek at the first episode, titled “Road to Nowhere,” on Sept. 5 at 9 p.m.
