Andre Benjamin — a.k.a Andre 3000, one-half of Outkast, and owner of many, many jumpsuits — is heading to TV. The musician and actor has been cast in season 2 of ABC’s American Crime.
He’ll play architect Michael Lacroix, opposite returning star Regina King, who will play his wife, Terri. “A true power couple, they have both the financial means, as well as the acumen needed to fiercely defend their son when he becomes entangled in a scandal at an elite private school,” ABC teases.
Andre previously worked with creator John Ridley on 2013’s Jimi Hendrix film Jimi: All Is By My Side.
“Personally, I couldn’t be more excited than to work again with Andre,” Ridley said in a statement on Friday. “He is an amazing individual, a true artist, and All is by my Side is one of the reasons I was given the reins on American Crime. Folks at ABC were absolutely moved by Andre’s performance in the film, and by the overall language of cinema we used in telling the story. It’s fair to say American Crime might not exist were it not for our previous collaboration.”
Back in May, ABC entertainment president Paul Lee said the drama will see a “total reset” when it returns for season 2.
“It’s a completely different scenario and a completely different crime, even placed in a different part of America,” Lee said. “Some of these iconic actors from season 1 of American Crime are going to come back and play different roles.”
Season 1 stars Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton will also return.
