This year’s list of Emmy nominees is full of both veterans — Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Balik scored her fourth nod — and newbies, like first-timers Phil Lord and Christopher Lord.

Below, see their reactions to the good news, which range from the genuine (Jessica Lange) to the humorous (Don Cheadle), and watch this space for updates.

Jessica Lange, American Horror Story: Freak Show (nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie): “What great news! I am thankful to the Academy to receive this wonderful nomination and to be in such magnificent company. And to Ryan Murphy for the most extraordinary experience. Playing Elsa Mars this season was extremely special to me and I am truly honored.”

Mayim Balik, The Big Bang Theory (nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series): “I am literally shocked. Every year it’s a humble blessing to be nominated and I don’t think any of this, or the adrenaline it creates, for granted. I never knew that playing dress up for a living could be this invigorating. Thank you for the honor of being nominated for the fourth year in a row!”

Gareth Neame, Downton Abbey executive producer (nominated for Outstanding Drama Series): “We’re very proud of the most recent season of Downton Abbey and are so appreciative that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has chosen to honor the Downton team in this way.  On behalf of all those who bring to life the saga of the Crawley family and those who serve them, thank you for recognizing our show for a fifth consecutive season.”

Anna Chlumsky, Veep (nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series), exclusively to EW: “It’s funny, now that that news came out a little later in the day, I got going with my day. So in previous years, it’s kind of like the first thing you hear in the morning, so it’s like, it kind of informs the rest of your day. This time, it was like, ‘oh my gosh this is wonderful, I have to get beans on the fire!’ But that’s not to say that it’s any less sweet. It’s pretty sweet.”

Don Cheadle, House of Lies (nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series): “7 nominees? Clearly men in comedy is SO much more weighty and important than any other sex or category. You’re welcome, America.”

Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, The Last Man on Earth directors and producers (nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series): “We are so happy for our dear friend Will Forte. His genius is to make us laugh and think and care all at the same time. We feel really lucky to receive this directing nomination, but even luckier to work with such a talented group of actors, writers, editors, and filmmakers as we did on Last Man, including our fellow nominee editor Stacey Schroeder. They made us look really good, and they made it one of the most enjoyable filmmaking experiences of our lives. We’re filling up the margarita pool to celebrate.”

Regina King, American Crime (nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie): “I just want to say that I am so proud of this show. Everybody felt that it was a singular experience and that we were a part of something special that could actually start a conversation — so to be recognized in this way is really wonderful. These performances were so powerful across the board. It is extremely rewarding to be part of a cast that is so strong — oh, and the crew. I’m so lucky that I’m on my way now to play with half of the American Crime crew on the set of The Leftovers here in Austin. The fact that I get to go celebrate with about 30 men and women who also worked on American Crime is just priceless.”

Lesli Linka Glatter, Homeland executive producer and director (nominated for Outstanding Drama Series): “I’m just stunned and thrilled by this nomination and delighted for the show!”

This year’s Emmys air Sept. 20. See the full list of nominees here.
