Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zac Efron, more address U.S. gun control in Hit Record episode

Posted on

The latest episode of Hit Record on TV with Joseph Gordon-Levitt is sure to be the series’ most sensitive yet, this time focusing on the topic of guns.

The half-hour variety show, starring, created, and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is made up of contributions from members of Gordon-Levitt’s collaborative online community hitRECord. Every episode explores a different topic, but none in the past have been so timely as gun control.

“’RE: Guns’ was definitely the most controversial theme of any episode we did this season,” Gordon-Levitt said in a statement. “But controversy just means that people have a wide variety of strong opinions.”

The episode includes first-person narratives about personal experiences with guns, factual segments about the sole legal gun shop in Mexico and the origin of the term “riding shotgun,” and a series of satirical TV commercials written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and featuring Zac Efron, about a product called a “Dick Gun,” which is exactly what it sounds like.

“Just because lots of people disagree, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t talk about it, tell stories about it, sing songs about it, etc.,” Gordon-Levitt said. “Our show is an example of how people who disagree can still collaborate to make something great together.”

“RE: Guns” will air tomorrow on Pivot, but the full episode has been made available early on YouTube. Watch below:
