Last week, Amy Schumer told The Daily Beast that Comedy Central had spoken to her about replacing Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show. Schumer turned the network down, but she did go so far as to have a meeting with current host Jon Stewart.
Speaking with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show on Tuesday, Schumer revealed she “hung with Jon Stewart a little bit.”
“We had a piece of pizza and talked about the possibility of me hosting,” Schumer said. “I think he was there to answer my questions.”
Schumer told The Daily Beast that while she was honored to have Comedy Central show so much faith in her — the network is home to Schumer’s popular show, Inside Amy Schumer — the idea of being locked down in a daily job was ultimately unappealing to the burgeoning star.
“I thought, ‘Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years,'” Schumer said. “But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years — I love not knowing. And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, ‘I can’t start now.'”
During the interview with Stern, Schumer reiterated that sentiment.
“I just pictured all the fittings — all the blazers I would have to wear,” Schumer said. “I was like, ‘I don’t want to do that.’ […] It felt like it would be betting against myself. ‘This way I’m secure, I know I would make this and have this job.’ But I’m like, ‘No I’m going to bet on myself that I can do more.'”
