Vin Diesel is working with Universal Pictures to produce and star in a big-screen adaptation of Kojak, the 1970’s cop drama that starred Telly Savalas as Lieutenant Theo Kojak.

The studio confirmed a Deadline report that it has hired playwright Philip Gawthorne, who’s currently writing a Cube remake for Lionsgate, to re-imagine the bald hero for the big-screen, and Diesel’s One Race Films is on board to produce alongside Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote a previous draft of the screenplay.
