E! just found a big replacement for Kathy Griffin and Kelly Osbourne on Fashion Police.
Melissa Rivers will follow in the footsteps of her late mother, Joan Rivers, by co-hosting Fashion Police when the show returns Aug. 31. Rivers will join Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski while continuing to serve as an executive producer for the panel talk show.
Rather than find another permanent host, E! plans to rotate in celebrity guests when the show returns for six episodes, starting with coverage of fashion at MTV’s Video Music Awards.
“As an executive producer since the beginning, Melissa helped shape Fashion Police into an iconic TV series that couples fashion with comedy,” said Jeff Olde, E! EVP programming and development, in a statement. “We are pleased to now also feature Melissa in front of the Fashion Police cameras, as she joins returning panelists Giuliana and Brad. And with the added flavor of rotating panelists, the show will deliver fresh, different and unpredictable fashion reviews with each new episode.”
The future of Fashion Police began to look bleak earlier this year when Rancic made an insensitive on-air joke about Zendaya’s hairstyle at the Academy Awards. The E! anchor made an on-air apology a day later after Zendaya registered her complaints via social media. Within a month, Osbourne announced that she was leaving the show that she helped to launch in 2010, and then Griffin—who only joined the show in January as a replacement for Joan Rivers—quit, too.
