Veteran wrestler Dusty Rhodes died on Thursday at age 69, WWE confirmed.
Born Virgil Runnels, the man widely known as “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes began his career in 1968 and retired in 2007. That same year, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Two of Rhodes’ sons, Dustin and Cody, wrestle as Goldust and Stardust, respectively.
“Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit,” WWE’s statement read. “WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Runnels’ family, friends and colleagues.”
