On Orange is the New Black, Big Boo specializes in intimidation tactics, but in real life, star Lea DeLaria spends her time perfecting other skills. She’s an avid jazz musician, and on June 23, her newest album, House of David: delaria + bowie = jazz, will be released online.
EW has an exclusive first look at the album cover for House of David, which is a jazz reworking of David Bowie’s catalog, The track list includes “Fame,” “Life on Mars,” “Golden Years,” “Suffragette,” and more.
“Bowie is not only a god of rock and arbiter of style, but he’s THE defining singer songwriter of the latter part of the 20th century,” Lea said in a press release. “From ‘Suffragette City’ to Labyrinth through Ziggy Stardust and The Hunger, his bold career choices and mind blowing artistic technique flies in the face of convention. He is quite simply a legend. David’s music lends itself perfectly to the language of Jazz. I hope he sees this album as the tribute to his genius that I mean it to be. LONG LIVE DAVID BOWIE.”
After its online release, House of David: delaria + bowie = jazz will hit stores on July 24.
