Lethal Weapon actress Mary Ellen Trainor dies

Mary Ellen Trainor, an actress best known for her work in the Lethal Weapon film series, died on May 20 at age 62.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the news on Monday. 

Trainor got her start in an 1983 episode of Cheers and the 1984 film Romancing the Stone and later appeared in 1985’s The Goonies as Mikey and Brand’s mom. She went on to play a police psychiatrist named Stephanie Woods in all four Lethal Weapons movies, and also appeared in films directed by her one-time husband Robert Zemeckis including Forrest Gump and Back to the Future Part II.

Trainor’s additional credits include roles in Die Hard, Scrooged, and Ghostbusters II. She last appeared in a TV film titled McBride: Requiem in 2008.
