The Weeknd joined Drake as one of Apple’s heavy hitters in introducing Apple Music to the world. At the end, the former played a new song for the WWDC crowd, and now it’s on Vevo and iTunes. “Can’t Feel My Face” eschews the dark, overtly sexual aesthetic he came up on for a funky, bass-heavy jam. It has shades of Michael Jackson, in the vocal scatting and driving rhythm section. It’s almost as if he thought he could produce something in that vein instead of twisting up a classic MJ cut in “Dirty Diana” in his usual fashion. “Can’t Feel My Face” is a welcome deviation from The Weeknd’s usual sound. Listen to the new song above now, before it’s ubiquitous in July.
