It’s no secret that Harry Styles is the biggest heartthrob of One Direction, and in the wake of Zayn Malik’s departure (and leak of a solo track), fans have been worried that Styles is next to go his own way.
Never fear, Directioners—Styles isn’t leaving. Not yet, anyway.
“We have the album and the tour that we’re working on right now. I think when you have so many goals that you feel like you have yet to achieve, it’s hard to kind of see past those,” he told Ryan Seacrest over the phone June 4. “It’s important to kind of focus on what’s going on and don’t kind of lose track. So we’re all working hard towards the same thing right now, and I don’t think we’re thinking much past that. We’re just having a lot of fun and we’re working hard and we’re having a good time.”
When it comes to the upcoming Zayn-less album, Styles says the creative process was “very similar” despite being down a man.
“It’s definitely been fun for us writing to see what’s been different just kind of naturally,” he says. “But it was cool how some of the things came out sounding because actually there was a lot of parts that kind of needs to get written with Zayn in mind and with all of us in mind. It’s great, the new stuff sounds good so far, I think. We hope that people like it.”
The remaining 1D boys have been fairly vocal about Malik’s exit—they even thanked him in their Billboard Music Awards acceptance speech—saying that there are no hard feelings. Now that a couple of months have passed without Malik, Styles says the spirit is great and the boys are excited about their forthcoming tour and new album, which he revealed will be released “towards the end of the year.”
One Direction set out on the North American leg of their On the Road Again tour featuring Icona Pop in July.
