Screenwriter Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the remake of Point Break, has partnered with Spike to develop a scripted series tackling race and law enforcement, the network announced Tuesday.

The series, titled When The Levee Breaks, will follow an African-American LAPD officer as he investigates the murders of two racist cops whose deaths lead to an illegal police strike and even more chaos in the city. Wimmer previously tackled the subject of law enforcement as the writer of 2009’s Law Abiding Citizen.

Spike TV, meanwhile, adds one more series to its slate of original programming. This summer, the network is set to debut its first scripted event series in eight years with the Ben Kingsley-starring sword-and-sandals epic Tut.
