In the hours since Caitlyn Jenner made her debut onVanity Fair‘s July cover, her family members, fellow celebrities, and even President Obama have reacted to the former Olympian’s big moment. Now Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger, who also penned VF‘s Caitlyn Jenner cover story, has appeared on Today to discuss the impact of Jenner taking her gender identity public.
“It’s a beginning in Caitlyn Jenner’s life,” he said. “It’s more open, more honest, more everything… I think Caitlyn has found her soul that really Bruce never had.”
Bissinger explained that as Bruce, Jenner was “an absentee father.” “He admits that, and it was very hard for them,” Bissinger continued, pointing out that the elder Jenner children didn’t see their father much because of his status as an American sports icon. “As Caitlyn, they’re really trying hard to reconnect.”
