WTF? That might be your reaction to learning that there is now an official definition for the Internet slang. As reported by The Huffington Post, “WTF,” “clickbait,” “emoji,” “NSFW” and “meme” are just some of the 1,700 new words Merriam-Webster has added to its dictionary.
The good news is that now, when those non-Internet saavy people ask you what a photo bomb is (“to move into the frame of the photograph as it is being taken as a prank or a joke”) or what jeggings are (“a legging that is designed to resemble a tight-fitting pair of denim jeans and is made of stretchable fabric”), you can point them to a black and white definition and prove that you’re speaking verified English. In the meantime, we can take bets on the next round of words to make it into the dictionary—”BRB”, anyone?
