Amy Schumer's Bill Cosby sketch, 'The Trial of Bill Cosby,' debuts

Back in April, Amy Schumer revealed that the latest season of Inside Amy Schumer would tackle the rape allegations against Bill Cosby. On Tuesday night, a sketch about Cosby finally made its debut — featuring Schumer as Cosby’s defense attorney during a mock trial for the embattled comedian.

Throughout the trial, Schumer tries to blur the line between the allegations against Cosby and his beloved Cosby Show character, Dr. Cliff Huxtable.

“Let’s remind ourselves what’s at stake here. If convicted, the next time you put on a rerun of The Cosby Show you may wince a little. Might feel a little pang,” Schumer says to the jury members, after gifting them with Jell-O pudding pops and sweaters similar to the kind Cosby has famously worn in the past. “And none of us deserve that. We don’t deserve to feel that pang. We deserve to dance like no one’s watching, and watch like no one’s raping.”

The sketch is slightly different than the one Schumer teaser earlier this year. “I had an idea to do a scene where there was somewhat of a support group and it was all girls who wouldn’t say what happened, but they were all wearing Cosby sweaters,” Schumer said during a Tribeca Film Festival panel in April. “And we were like, we want to address this. We don’t want it to go away without us getting to comment on it. I think we probably talked about this scene more than any other scene we’ve ever done.”

Cosby has never been charged with a crime. More than 30 women have accused the 77-year-old of sexual abuse.
