Gabrielle Union will be Jamie Foxx‘s ex-wife—in a new movie. Sleepless Night is an action thriller and remake of French thriller Nuit Blanche. Foxx’s character is a dirty cop who must reclaim a bag of stolen drugs to save his kidnapped son’s life. But he’s pursued by both sides of the law. James Gunn enlisted John C. McGinley for his new horror film, The Belko Experiment. The writer announced on his Facebook page that the Scrubs and Platoon vet will play Wendell Duke, an awkward top Belko exec and friend of Barry Norris (Tony Goldwyn). Shooting begins in Bogota, Colombia, in June. McGinley joins the previously announced cast in Goldwynn, John Gallagher Jr., and Melonie Diaz. Greg McLean directs Gunn’s script, and Peter Safran joins Gunn as a producer.
Supergirl heads to East Los Angeles. Melissa Benoist, the star of the recently picked-up CBS show, will be in Lowriders. The plot centers around a girl caught between two different views of life within her own family, as her father and gang-affiliated brother go head to head in the lowrider “Supershow.” Demian Bichir, Eva Longoria, Tony Revolori, Gabriel Chavarria, Theo Rossi, and Yvette Monreal had previously been casted. Ricardo de Montreuil will direct the script written by Josh Bierne-Gordon and Justin Tipping. [Deadline]
Roland Emmerich adds a kid to Independence Day 2. Garrett Wareing (Boychoir) will play a child who seeks protection from the aliens with the president and first family. Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, and Charlotte Gainsbourg are all in the film, while some Independence Day originals—Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Judd Hirsch—are tapped to bring back their roles.
