'American Crime' to be 'completely different' for season 2

American Crime is taking the anthology path. ABC’s acclaimed midseason drama is going for a “total reset” in season 2, says ABC entertainment president Paul Lee.

Lee told reporters Tuesday that some of the actors will return next year for the show’s second season, but in different roles. “It’s a completely different scenario and a completey different crime, even placed in a different part of America,” Lee revealed. “Some of these iconic actors from season 1 of American Crime are going to come back and play different roles.”

Though critics praised the gritty show from executive producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), American Crime was not a success in the ratings, averaging only 6.9 million viewers and a 1.7 among adults 18-49, including DVR playback.

Ridley is also developing a top-secret Marvel title for ABC that’s based on an existing character, but Lee told reporters he isn’t permitted to say anything about the project yet.
