Disney's 'Descendants' trailer: It's like 'High School Musical,' but with magic

Posted on

It’s safe to assume that for most Disney heroes, a “happily ever after” ending includes a few kids. Descendants, this year’s most-hyped Disney Channel original movie, suggests that villains can have families too—they’re just not allowed to be quite as happy about it.

Jafar, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and Cruella de Vil—defined here as “the most infamous villains that have ever lived,” meaning Scar has once again been tragically shafted—have been sentenced to live on an island with the rest of Disney’s misfits. Their kids (yes, someone actually had Jafar’s kid) are plucked from a life of running amok and experimenting with hair dye to attend a fancy prep school, where they will almost definitely be assimilated into some choreographed dance numbers. Check out the trailer for a preview of Kristin Chenoweth and Kathy Najimy’s cheekbones.

Though no release date has yet been set, Descendants will debut on Disney channel this summer.
