Winter moviegoers spent an average of $8.12 per ticket for the first three months of 2015 — not including popcorn.
According to statistics released by the National Association of Theatre Owners, average ticket prices fell from $8.30, the average for the fourth quarter of 2014. It’s also a lower price than the overall 2014 average, which came in at $8.17.
This kind of drop isn’t anything unusual, as prices tend to fall between January and March when the rush of holiday blockbusters is over. Still, recent box office hits like Cinderella, Fifty Shades of Grey, and The Divergent Series: Insurgent helped to stave off too much of a slump: Last year, first quarter tickets only cost an average of $7.96.
