Julianne Moore spoke out against video on-demand on Thursday, taking aim at the increasingly popular distribution method. While speaking at CinemaCon, Moore expressed her disappointment at the notion day-and-date film releases, where a movie will arrive in theaters and on VOD at the same time. “I think ‘Oh, really?'” Moore said of that model. “We work hard as creators in creating a theatrical experience.”
The Academy Award-winning actress, who built her career on several independent films, went on to assert that “a movie never looks the same on television.” The conversation came about during the final day of CinemaCon, where Sony Pictures Classic co-president Tom Bernard spoke about the state of independent distributors. Interestingly, Sony Pictures Classics has never employed the VOD method when it comes to their films.
