Losing your phone is never fun—but especially not when you have hundreds of song ideas on it. Metallica’s guitarist Kirk Hammett had to find this out the hard way six months ago when he lost his phone and, as a result, 250 song ideas.
“I was crushed. It didn’t get backed up,” the guitarist told NME. “When it happened, I was bummed out for about two or three days … I’m still looking for it to this day.”
Hammett has been with Metallica since nearly the beginning—he joined the band in 1983, two years after frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich formed it.
The current foursome hasn’t released a new album since 2008’s Death Magnetic, but Hammett told NME the band is working on a new record that’s “super-riffy” and “super-heavy.”
