The Entity, the 1980 horror film about a single woman who is assaulted by a demon, is the latest film to receive the remake treatment. Variety reports that James Wan will produce—but not necessarily direct—the movie along with Roy Lee, with a script by Chad and Carey Hayes.
Wan, who is currently one of Hollywood’s hottest directors thanks to his work on Furious 7, directed Saw and Insidious and worked closely with the Hayes brothers on The Conjuring, the 2013 sleeper hit about a pair of paranormal investigators who get called to exorcize a demon from a family home. Wan will reportedly direct the film’s sequel, The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, this fall, marking his return to the genre he is best known.
Lee is best known for producing classic horror movies such as The Ring and The Grudge, and the upcoming remake of The Poltergeist. This summer, he will start production on an adaptation of Stephen King’s It.
The original film, based on a supposedly true story, starred Barbara Hershey as the tormented woman and Ron Silver as a doctor who tries to help her.
Wan and Lee did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
