Part of the reason Furious 7 became the fastest film ever to cross $1 billion in global ticket sales? Its performance in China. The Vin Diesel film grossed $250 million in its first eight days of release there, giving Furious 7 the country’s biggest opening week ever.

As Variety notes, more than 29 million people have paid to see Furious 7 in China at an average ticket price of just over $6. It’s expected that Furious 7 will eventually topple Transformers: Age of Extinction to become China’s highest-grossing movie ever. Last year’s Transformers sequel earned $320 million at the Chinese box office.

All told, Furious 7 has grossed more than $1.15 billion around the world, placing it in seventh place on the all-time box office chart, just ahead of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Future blockbusters to lose ground to Furious 7 include Iron Man 3 (in sixth place with $1.215 billion) and possibly Frozen (in fifth place with $1.274 billion).
