While Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard’s entry into the multiplayer online battle arena genre (MOBA, for those who hate long genre names), has been playable in early forms for awhile. Now, the company behind World of Warcraft and Diablo is ready to officially release the game later this year.
Blizzard announced that Heroes will release in full on June 2, following an open beta that launches on May 19. The game has been in a closed beta since earlier this year, but will officially launch with more than 30 playable heroes and seven battlegrounds for players to compete on.
MOBAs have been one of the fatest growing fields in gaming, thanks largely to the worldwide appeal of League of Legends and similar games, but Blizzard has taken its time to bring Heroes to the level it wants for final release. The game combines players from Blizzard’s other franchises — including Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft — and brings together the many franchises in the world of the Nexus.
