For Syfy, Sharknado is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s hard to believe the beyond-campy TV movie has spawned two sequels and a line of products (and rejuvenated Mark McGrath’s career?), but the phemon is here to stay. If that weren’t already clear, it was just announced that Sharknado is collaborating with Archie Comics in a new book: Archie Vs. Sharknado.
According to Deadline, the 48-page comic will be released in comic shops and digitally on July 22, the same day Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! premieres. Sharknado trilogy director Anthony C. Ferrante wrote the comic, and Archie’s Dan Parent created the art. While this will be Sharknado’s first comic book, Archie has collaborated with quite a few other brands of late, in titles like Archie Meets Kiss (2011), and Archie Meets Glee (2013). This week, Archie Vs. Predator was released.
“The Sharknado franchise has soared in popularity due partly to the variety of great celebrities, who bravely encounter this unnatural menace,” said Jeff Li, VP of Syfy Ventures. “Sharknado survivors come in all forms. It’s only natural that Archie and the gang will get a chance to save their town from flying sharks.”
And if Archie and pals don’t survive, they can just take the fast track to Afterlife with Archie, which also exists.
