Already set to take center stage in Universal’s Jurassic World this summer, Chris Pratt will join the studio for a bootlegging drama based on sea captain William “Bill” McCoy, EW has confirmed.
Pratt will star in the film, written by Bill Dubuque, as it details McCoy’s journey of smuggling rum from the Bahamas to the U.S. during Prohibition. The captain originated the phrase “the real McCoy” because he claimed to never pay for protection from law enforcement or the mob, and always delivered uncut liquor. McCoy himself, however, did not consume alcohol.
Tom McNulty conceived the idea, and Michael De Luca will produce. The project has no director at this time.
