The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2 director Francis Lawrence has lined up his next project.
EW has confirmed that Lawrence is on board to direct a remake of Homer’s The Odyssey from a script by Mockingjay—Part 2 co-scribe Peter Craig. Nina Jacobson is on board to produce.
Lawrence, who has spent the last few years directing the latter three Hunger Games films, will not be the first director to take on an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, which follows Odysseus’ journey as he tries to return home after the Trojan War. There have been numerous films inspired by the poem, including 1967’s Ulysses, which starred Kirk Douglas.
According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Lionsgate has fast-tracked production on The Odyssey to begin early next year following press for Mockingjay—Part 2.
