“Did I build a ship to wreck?” Florence Welch wails on the latest track off her forthcoming collection How Big How Blue How Beautiful (due out June 2 in the U.S.). Welch described the song in a statement: “I was thinking about my own self destructive side, and how you can make something only to tear it down, enjoy/destroy, create/devastate etc. When you’re in that whirlwind, you often end up breaking the thing you love the most.” And while that sounds heavy—and lyrically it is a heavy song—sonically this is the fullest, most anthemic track we’ve heard from the singer and her backing band the Machine yet this year.

“A Ship To Wreck” follows previously released songs “St. Jude,” “What Kind of Man,” and the album’s title track.
