'Goosebumps' writer Carl Ellsworth signs on for 'Gremlins' remake

A new batch of Gremlins may be on their way to theaters, as the Gremlins remake picks up steam with a newly signed screenwriter.

EW can confirm that Carl Ellsworth has been brought on to pen the screenplay for Warner Bros.’ Gremlins, a remake of the original 1984 film, which was written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante.

Columbus is set to produce this remake along with Steven Spielberg, who was a producer on the original film as well.

Ellsworth wrote the upcoming Goosebumps film, and has also written the scripts for DisturbiaRed Eye, and The Last House on the Left remake.

No other details are known about the new Gremlins are currently known. Deadline originally reported Ellsworth’s hiring.
