Casting Net: Anna Kendrick joins Zac Efron in 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates'

  • Anna Kendrick will join Zac Efron and Adam DeVine in the 20th Century Fox comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, the story of two brothers who put an ad online to find dates for a wedding and the ad ends up going viral. [Variety]

  • Kristen Stewart is in negotiations to join Ang Lee‘s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Based on the bestselling novel by Ben Fountain, the story is about 19-year-old infantryman Billy Lynn and his fellow U.S. servicemen who survive a firefight in Iraq. The Bush administration brings the veterans back home for a victory tour that takes them to the Dallas Cowboys’ football stadium. They are honored during the team’s Thanksgiving Day halftime show before they return to war. Stewart is lined up for the role of Kathryn, Billy’s older sister. [The Wrap]

  • Jessica Barth (Ted 2), Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), Sydney Sweeney (The Ward), Madison Lintz (The Walking Dead), Kyla Deaver (The Conjuring) and Oscar-nominated actor Bruce Davison are set to star in the supernatural horror film Tell Me Your Name. Sweeney plays Ashley, a young woman with a troubled past who returns to her hometown to stay with her Aunt Tanya (Barth) after her older sister goes to college. Ashley and her childhood best friend (Lintz) attempt a séance to reach out to her deceased mother, only for it to go horribly wrong. A a dark force attaches itself to Ashley. Reverend Michael (Davison) and Pastor John (Dallas) help Tanya to find out what has happened to her niece. [The Wrap]

  • Luke Grimes (American Sniper) is in negotiations to join the cast of MGM and Sony’s remake of The Magnificent Seven starring Denzel Washington. The 1960 film, itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, focused on seven gunslingers who protect an oppressed Mexican village from a group of outlaws.   • Matt Lanter has been cast opposite Nicolas Cage in the upcoming film USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, based on the true story of the American warship that was sunk by a Japanese sub in the Philippine Sea at the end of World War II. Lanter will play Chief Petty Officer Brian “Bama” Smithwick, a US Navy Diver from the Gulf Coast. Shooting will begin in June in Mobile, Ala. [Deadline]

  • Rebecca Ferguson is set to join Florence Foster Jenkins opposite Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg. The film is based on the true story of the titular character (Streep), a wealthy woman part of NYC high society in the early 20th century who used her relationships and fortune to become a singer, even though she couldn’t actually sing. Grant will play her butler and best friend, and Ferguson will play Grant’s long-suffering wife. [Deadline]

  • Johnny Galecki will play one of the leads in Paramount’s Rings, the third installment in the horror franchise. Galecki will play Gabriel, a handsome professor who mentors a young couple.[Deadline]
