Beastie Boys' Adam Horovitz gives relationship advice in 'Ask a Grown Man'

Posted on

Adam Horovitz—who Beastie Boys fans know as Ad-Rock—is the latest grown man featured in Rookie‘s “Ask a Grown Man” series, which features famous males doling out advice on topics ranging from first kisses to perpetual insecurity.

The first question came from a girl who wants to kiss her boyfriend but is feeling shy about it—especially because neither she nor he have ever kissed anyone. “My advice and opinion is to go ahead and kiss,” Horovitz said. “Just talk about it, have a quick little conversation, and say, you know what, we’re just going to do this.” He went on to list the benefits of even just a quick peck on the lips: “There’s something really special about being really close for just a moment.”

The theme running through most of his answers was “be honest,” but his last answer had more to do with figuring out what’s best for you and doing whatever that is. The question came from someone battling insecurity, and he made sure to stress that this happens to everyone. “If it helps to know, everybody feels that way. Like, weekly,” he said with a laugh. “You’re not alone.”

He said to do what makes you happy to get out of the funk, whether that’s making music—like him—or dancing or bowling. “Focus on the thing you love to do,” he said. “That definitely helps.”

See Horovitz in Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Youngin theaters now.
