'Halo 5' trailers promise release date, Master Chief, Locke showdown

Posted on

Master Chief may have finally met his match.

Microsoft has debuted a pair of teaser trailers for this year’s Halo 5 Guardians, offering two opposing versions of the same scenario.

In one, Master Chief walks up to Spartan Locke, who’s on the brink of death at the foot of a Master Chief statue—telling him that Spartan has completed his mission. But Chief’s mission is just beginning.

The second trailer takes place in the same location, but the roles are reversed. Here, Locke bears down on a shot and fallen Chief, telling him that the Chief will be remembered as a hero—and not the traitor Locke believes him to be.

Which version is the truth? Well, we don’t know… and that’s intentinal on Microsoft’s part. It’s all part of the game’s “Hunt the Truth” campaign, which leads fans on a hunt for more information about the Halo franchise’s famous hero.

The trailers do more than push players deeper down the Halo rabbit hole, though: They also offer an official release date for the game. Players can expect Halo 5 Guardians to release for the Xbox One on Oct. 27.
