'Mad Max' to blitz Cannes

Mad Max: Fury Road
Jasin Boland

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, a reimagining of his own Road Warrior movies that he made with Mel Gibson 30 years ago, will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14—the day before it opens around the world. The film will screen Out of Competition at the Grand Theatre Lumière on the festival’s second day.

Tom Hardy takes over the role of the rugged hero in the new film, and the berzerk trailers for the film have done nothing to dull enthusiasm for Miller’s remake. Charlize Theron plays a mysterious woman in the desert who teams up with Max to survive the elements and the roving gang of lunatic motorheads who prey on the weak in the existential post-apocalyptic battle for water and gasoline.
