New developments in the murder case of former Food Network Star contestant Cristie Codd and her husband, Joseph “J.T.” Codd, were announced at a press conference held by Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan on Friday.

Robert Jason Owens, the North Carolina man who was arrested for the murders of the couple, made statements to detectives suggesting he had destroyed and stored the bodies of his victims at his home. Upon investigation, detectives discovered what they believe to be human remains, part of which were in a wood stove, Fox Carolina reports.

Duncan said that Owens’ wife gave a statement to deputies, claiming that Owens confessed to killing J.T. Codd with a pickup truck. Duncan did not, however, comment on how Cristie Codd, who was pregnant at the time of her death, was killed.

Owens is facing two counts of first-degree murder, and is also being charged with the murder of an unborn child.
