A newly instated Emmys rule defined comedies as half an hour or under, but now the Television Academy has announced that three hour-long shows can compete as comedies.

A nine-member panel responsible for making these eligibilty calls has allowed GleeShameless, and Jane the Virgin to compete as comedies. This will be the first year that Jane is up for awards, however Glee and Shameless have both competed as comedies before. Shameless only recently made the switch from the drama to comedy categories.

According to the Emmys release, these are the “first decisions” made by the panel. Orange Is the New Black, which was up for comedy awards last year, is another show affected by the rule change.
