Kerry Washington will star in and executive produce an HBO TV movie about Anita Hill entitled Confirmation.
The film will detail the explosive 1991 Clarence Thomas-Hill Supreme Court nomination hearings, which brought the nation to a standstill and forever changed the way people think about sexual harassment, victims’ rights and race relations in the modern world.
Academy Award-nominated writer Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) will pen the script and executive produce along with Washington, Michael London, and Janice Williams. Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, The Wood) is in talks to direct, but no deal is in place.
Washington was set to film Warner Bros.’ Amma Asante-directed drama Unforgettable this summer, which may lead to scheduling conflicts with Confirmation.
HBO is currently building its roster of original films, including the recently announced Battle of the Sexes project with Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti tapped to play tennis legends Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. The premium network is also working on an adaptation of Bryan Cranston’s Tony winner All the Way with Jay Roach attached to direct.
