HBO is looking at Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks to star in their TV movie chronicling the famous Battle of the Sexes tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs — though no deals are done quite yet.
HBO plans to focus the film around the legendary 1973 match in which 29-year-old King, then the No. 2 female player in the world, defeated Riggs, the 55-year-old retired Wimbledon champion.
David Auburn (Proof) will be writing the script for Playtone. Auburn will executive produce along with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and Banks and her Brownstone Productions partner Max Handelman.
