Mumford & Sons debut 'Believe' first single off third studio album

Posted on

Mumford & Sons dropped the first single of their forthcoming third—but first electric!—album, Wilder Mind, Monday, titled “Believe.” When Marcus Mumford announced the group’s sonic departure in an interview with Rolling Stone, no matter how detailed he was in reference to their synth or mellotrons or electric guitar-incorporation, it seemed to only raise the question: Is a Mumford song still a Mumford song if it doesn’t sound like the banjo-strumming and kick-drum drumming outfit we first met in 2009 on Sigh No More

“Believe” delivered a swift and confident “Yes.” It’s bigger and fuller and the first electric guitar solo is surprising, but with Mumford’s vocal sitting heart-center, it still feels very “Mumford.”

Wilder Mind is due out May 4.
