Emma Watson, who was named a Goodwill Ambassador for U.N. Women in July, celebrated International Women’s Day Sunday by partaking in an hour-long Facebook chat about gender equality—and the need for both women and men to fight for it.

“Gender equality historically has predominantly been a women’s movement for women,” she said, summarizing the speech she gave at the U.N. in September that signaled the launch of HeForShe, a campaign for gender equality. “But I think the impact of gender inequality and how it’s actually been affecting men hasn’t really been addressed. I think our society in general devalues the ‘she,’ when I say that, I mean qualities associated with the feminine, which are found in all of us. As a result, there’s kind of this imbalance and this distortion, and it’s just hindering our progress.”

She went on to clarify the word “feminist,” and how everyone can be one. “I think men think it’s a women’s word. That it’s only for women,” she said. “But it really just means that you believe in equality. And if you stand for equality, then you’re a feminist. Sorry to tell you.”
