Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue Deconnick—essentially the First Couple of comics—are about to take on a new creative medium: television. According to Deadline, the couple has inked a two-year overall deal with Universal TV that will allow them to adapt some of their books for the small screen, as well as original TV concepts.
One of the first adapations will be Image Comics’ Sex Criminals, the Eisner-winning and New York Times-bestselling book by Fraction and Chip Zdarsky, about a couple who discovers they can stop time when they orgasm.
“We’re always excited to usher in fresh voices to the television space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Matt and Kelly Sue, a fantastic pair whose award-winning comics are as deeply realized as they are entertaining,” Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria said in a statement.
Best known for his work on Marvel comics such as Hawkeye, The Invincible Iron Man, and The Mighty Thor, as well as Image Comics’ ODY-C and Satellite Sam, Fraction also has experience writing for the big screen, serving as a consultant on Iron Man 2. He also wrote an episode of the acclaimed FX animated series Archer. Deconnick, in addition to helming popular Image titles such as Pretty Deadly and the recently released Bitch Planet, is also well-known for her work on Captain Marvel, and is largely credited with the reinvigoration of the character’s alter ego, Carol Danvers.
