Before Pharrell’s 2014 mega-hit “Happy,” and before N.E.R.D.’s “Happy” from 2008’s Seeing Sounds, there was an original Pharrell “Happy”—2006’s collaboration of the same name with Scott Weiland, the former Stone Temple Pilots frontman. Apparently intended for Weiland’s second solo album before Pharrell decided to keep the track for himself, the track resurfaced in the comments section on Weiland’s PledgeMusic campaign for another collection with the Wildabouts.
Grungier and far more intense, it’s a big departure from either of the other two similarly titled tracks. You can hear the track here.
Weiland, who was prepping for a show in Denver with the Wildabouts, told EW via email, “”It’s a song I wrote with Pharrell while I was recording Happy In Galoshes and unfortunately it didn’t end up on the album. I think it’s a cool track and it was a lot of fun to record. Funny that it’s surfacing now but I’m glad people are hearing it.”
