'Simpsons' to use fan-made pixel-art for next couch gag: Watch it

Posted on

Fox

Once again, the opening credits to an episode of The Simpsons will be animated by an outside source, but these guys don’t have the name recognition of such past contributors as Guillermo del Toro, Banksy, Bill Plympton, and John Kricfalusi. No, Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon are just a couple of artists/animators from Australia who happen to enjoy the show so much, they created a fan tribute via the magic of pixel art and posted it on YouTube. (Their friend Jeremy Dower contibuted a Nintendo-ized, 8-bit version of the theme song.) Within two days, the clip had a million views; it’s now eclipsed two million. The Simpsons producers took notice and contacted the guys with some good news: They wanted to feature their couch gag at the beginning of Sunday’s episode (8 p.m., Fox). There’s no need to wait until then, though. Click on the video below to see a pixel-perfect take on The Simpsons.
